That's lame. Knowing how AT&T is they'll probably charge you for it or something. I think I'd go for Verizon then. The only reason I'd want an AT&T ipad is the ability to buy foreign SIMs and use 3G that way. So what do you think of Mountain Lion? I'm not sure I'll upgrade, especially if it's $30. I'm never going to use those new features... From what I understand, both iPad 3 models are unlocked and world 3G ready. So you should be able to get a Verizon iPad 3 and still use it internationally with a foreign SIM. As for hotspot, Verizon offers it for free. I'm assuming AT&T will want to remain competitive, so you'd think they'd do the same. Pretty much the only reasons I went with AT&T on this one are a) I already have a Verizon iPhone (and I'll probably get an LTE one when it comes out) and b) AT&T's fallback connection (HSPA/HSPA+) is considerably faster than Verizon's fallback (EVDO Rev. A).

In that case I think I'd get a Verizon iPad. I'm not really expecting 4G from any of them, so just comparing EVDO + hotspot vs HSPA+ with no hotspot, I think I'd go Verizon.
I'm guessing AT&T would want to stay competitive but who knows, carriers basically do whatever they want here in the US.

I like being up to date with everything. The one thing I don't (currently) plan on upgrading to is Windows 8. I don't mind Metro (I think it'd make a nice secondary display thing), but I can't stand the thought of being forced to use it (and not having a Start Menu). I do love the way Windows 8 handles file copying and the Task Manager though. Boot times are also really good, but it's not worth being forced to use a clearly touch-centric UI with a mouse.

Wow is the iPad 3's display ever incredible. Can't wait to try out LTE (all I get right now is 1 bar of HSPA+).

I like LTE.

Nice that's faster than my home connection! I need to check the ipad display out in person. I bet it's awesome though.
And yeah, BTW: windows 8 wants to make me throw my PC into a fireplace. I don't think I'll upgrade to it. I think they're trying to copy Apples implementation ... but it's really not going to work like that. Getting rid of the start menu for that metro nonsense .... srsly?

AT&T is going to start unlocking iPhones ... nice! About time, actually.

AT&T is going to start unlocking iPhones ... nice! About time, actually. So I heard. Seems like Apple pressured them into allowing it (which they should have done years ago). Of course, the fact that Verizon will unlock the 4S probably helped as well (and I'm hoping Verizon allowing the iPad hotspot forces AT&T to as well).

And sprint I think those can also be unlocked. but i'm glad AT&T is becoming better. Hopefully they offer that free hotspot. after all, i'm sure they won't mind charging overage fees (and that's more likely with hotspot) ;D

Apparently CandyBar doesn't like Mountain Lion. I'm not used to the stock OS X icons at all.

I haven't been paying any attention to OSX releases... anything good in ML? I'm probably going to stick to Lion for awhile unless there's some good reason to upgrade.

I haven't been paying any attention to OSX releases... anything good in ML? I'm probably going to stick to Lion for awhile unless there's some good reason to upgrade. Based on the App Store reviews, I'm guessing it's a lot more stable and with far fewer bugs (though I didn't have too many issues with Lion to start with). I think Notification Center and improved iCloud support are probably the two biggest features for me. I was excited about AirPlay mirroring (because I've often been unable to find my MiniDP->HDMI adapter when I want to hook my laptop up to our TV), but apparently you need a 2011 or newer MacBook Pro to use it - which really annoys me. There is no way my laptop is incapable of handing AirPlay, Apple just wants to force people to upgrade ASAP. The other thing I did notice is my WiFi speeds have gone up by about 3x. On Lion, Speedtest.net usually got around 50mbps, now I can get the full 150mbps (a nice bonus of ML).

I had never bothered to check my speed in Lion before... I'm only getting about half of what I should on here. I assume it's just speedtest and Lion though. Downloaders, bittorrent, firefox, they all report speeds significantly higher than what Speedtest reports.

I'm not updating my personal laptop to ML. I've installed it on another Mac in my house (so it's already linked to my Apple ID) and it's really just the same for me. I won't be using any of the features that are new with ML. It's hardly worth the $20, for me (i know, i know ... i already purchased it ) I don't really use any of the Apple based apps (where notification center primarily works) such as mail, reminders, notepad ... and I don't plan on linking my facebook or twitter to my OS. Also don't plan on linking my iMessages to this thing either. Other than that, other things such as Powersleep (whatever it's called) doesn't work on my laptop ... even though they could've just had it where it worked when plugged into AC power nor does Airplay, as you mentioned. I can somewhat kinda understand the Powersleep not being compatible, but Airplay? Just pure greed. Not that I plan to use it but there's really no reason for it. Minor things that bother me include the dock lights being harder to see (I guess Apple purposely did this since they tried making it default on Lion to not display them at all...) and the fonts in the menubar seem to render differently (bothers me because I'm not used to it). Don't get me wrong though. A new OS is great and all ... it just isn't worth my time and mainly, there are a few things that I prefer on Lion. Dictation is fairly nice but I don't think I'll actually be talking to my laptop any time soon. So i'll just stick around for a bit. I'm not even sure if they should've bothered even calling this a new OS. It's just a small extension of lion. I was excited about AirPlay mirroring (because I've often been unable to find my MiniDP->HDMI adapter when I want to hook my laptop up to our TV), but apparently you need a 2011 or newer MacBook Pro to use it - which really annoys me.

I'm guessing the reason Power Nap is restricted to the MBA and the new Retina MPB is because those are the only models guaranteed to have a solid state drive. Using Power Nap without an SSD would probably be a horrible idea, so rather than have the firmware go through the process of checking the drive type, they just figured to disable to all together on models that could potentially have a conventional HDD.
That feature, though handy, really wouldn't be that useful in the grand scheme of things. Still disappointed about AirPlay though, but I wouldn't be surprised if – like Apple's decision to restrict SSD TRIM support to Apple-branded SSDs – third-party developers find a way to enable AirPlay on all Macs sporting Mountain Lion.
